The Clone Wars animated series writers were wise to bring him back with half a body at first, then a full-body later. He should have been killed somehow in Revenge of The Sith.

In particular, Darth Maul was awesome-so good, in fact I think he should have hung around much longer. There is a lot of good in them that I missed.

But, it does mean I appreciate the films a lot more now. Those scenes still represent a low point for the saga.
